Why Women Should Be Legal - 965 Words

If you were to ask a group of random women whether or not she’d been harassed in public, or the target of a sexist comment, how many do you think would say, â€Å"yes†? What if you were to ask whether or not they’re afraid to walk around outside alone from fear of an attack? How many do you think should say, â€Å"yes†? Women should be able to go wherever they want, whenever they want without fear of harassment or assault. There should be more ways to protect women both inside and outside the house. 70 to 99 percent of women have stated that they have experienced street harassment, mostly with strangers in public. About 27 percent of women report being assaulted at least once in public by a stranger. 45 percent of women have said that they’re†¦show more content†¦Between 90-95 percent of domestic violence victims are women. Studies of the Surgeon General s office reveal that domestic violence is the leading cause of injury to women between the ages of 15 and 44, more common than automobile accidents, muggings, and cancer deaths combined. Other research has found that half of all women will experience some form of violence from their partners during marriage, and that more than one-third are battered repeatedly every year. A possible solution to ensure women’s safety would be having schools and recreational places, such as gym’s, community center’s, ect. providing classes to help women learn how to defend themselves against an attacker in various ways. For schools, the lessons should be more or less mandatory to ensure that its females are getting them. For the recreational places, they should have multiple lesson times and locations so that women who may have work or other events to attend to during their day can still get an opportunity to get defense lessons. With these lessons at their disposal, women will be able to defend themselves against an attacker of any sort in almost any location. Knowing that, they will be less fearful of going outside alone, or walking to a destination by themselves, and feel much more confident.
